Job Summary
The Woodworker will pack, crate and fabricate wooden items as specified according to the IAW work order requirements in support of packing and shipping operations.
Principal Accountabilities
- Receiving Material:
- Ensure that material destined for shipment is clean prior to acceptance
- Verify accuracy of DD Form 1348-a or DD Form 1149, and accompanying documentation to the material being shipped
- Verification of quantity, nomenclature, national stock number (NSN), condition code (CC), unit of issue, and otter pertinent data
- Immediately contact the DPW Environmental Division and the AO, upon receipt of HAZMAT, for special instructions regarding handling storage, and shipment of unusual out of the norm HAZAMT items
- Validate preservation, packaging, and shipping requirements for items to be shipped
- Segregate and stage material by priority
- Prepare Material for shipment
- Preserve, package, palletize and stage with applicable mandatory publications. Outbound, Automatic Return Items (ARIs)
- Package and stage Non-ARIs designated for retrograde to depot within three workdays after scheduling
- Preserve, package, and stage Non-ARI material for shipment
- Package and stage Non-ARIs according to transportation priority within three (3) workdays after receipt of an MRO
- Package Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive (ESDS) items for shipment or storage
- Process all weapons for packing and shipping the same day of Shipment IAW AR 1901-11, 190-51
- Pack, crate, weigh, palletize and band material for shipment IAW current requirements
- Stencil containers with cube, dimensions, and shipment weigh IAW current requirements
- Assist with processing and sending POL samples within 48 working hours upon receiving the samples
- Assist with completing DD Form 1348-1, DD Form 1149 and other documents, as needed to complete standards
- Date and sign completed documents
- Comply with special documentation, packaging and shipping requirements for HAZMAT in accordance with applicable mandatory publications, and specific instructions from the DPW Environmental Division
- Packaging Material:
- Utilize to the maximum extent possible available metal, wood, and fiberboard reusable
- Make the maximum possible use if reusable cushionable shipping boxes
- Inspect and identify packaging materials as either serviceable or unserviceable, and segregate
- Establish and maintain a spate storage facility for serviceable packing materials
- Segregate, refurbish and store usable packing material
- Fabricate wooden crates and pallets for shipment of material in instances where prefabricated, serviceable wooden crates and pallets are not available
- Construct and repair containers, wooden pallets, and wooden and fiberboard containers to meet applicable military standards and specifications contained in mandatory publications as follows: AR 700-15, 700-141 and 700-143; DA –AM PAM 700-32 and 700-48; FM 38-700 and 38-701; TC 38-3; Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 (CFR-49)
- Repack and stencil repaired containers. Stencil material designated for shipment in accordance with IAW TM 38-230 Volumes 1 & 2.
- Perform packing using foam-in-place technique when required
- Transfer and dispose of unneeded packing materials. Comply with instructions from the DPW environmental Division regarding the transfer and disposal if packing materials
- Shipping Material:
- Receive CBL instructions from Documentation Clerk, load pre-stage material onto outbound carrier as directed by the Chief Transportation Division. If material is not pre-staged, find processed material in designated area that is marked for outbound shipment
- Fabricate, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools.
- Complete required documentations and reports.
- Complies with all Company rules, policies and procedures.
- Complies with all safety, environmental and quality standards and applicable COPs and DOPs
- Perform all other duties assigns as they relate to packing and shipping operations.
Knowledge & Skills
- Must be capable of performing any combination of duties to measure, cut, sand, shape, finish, store, clean, and ship wood products.
- Must be detail-oriented
- Ability to operate various power tools safely and have respect for company property
- Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals
- Computer and office machine skills.
- Basic math, problem solving skills.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
Experience & Education
- One (1) year of related experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Warehouse environment, but may be outdoors from time-to-time.
- Work requires standing, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, sitting, walking and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Occasionally assists lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work under stressful circumstances and meets shorts suspense dates.
- Must be free of medical restriction/ limitations that prevent the performance of required duties and/ or prevent the wearing and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must be physically capable of performing the work in conditions of extreme temperatures, low humidity, rain and blowing sand and dust.
- Employees shall utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices associated with all lifting and material handling tasks that are assigned and associated with this job description.
- May be required to work on uncommon hours of duty, extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to meet CMF criteria in accordance with DA PAM 611-21 and AR 601-210.
